      In most of the USA water is about 1 penny per gallon, one can use 2 gallons of water in a 5 gallon bucket with a power drill and a large paint mixer. Dump one or two shovel fulls in the five gallon bucket, mix it for 15 to 30 seconds with a cordless drill and mix mixer to agitate all the dirt, then dump off the dirty water into another 5 gallon bucket. Using several buckets, this method worked surprisingly well, for what it was. If you are in a dessert you could further conserve water by using multiple buckets and either filtering the water periodically or a letting it settle for a few minutes. You can still clean the stones with dirty water. All that said, I googled and found this to see what better methods are out there.

    Will this hold up during winters with freezing, thawing and refreezing temperatures?

    • @GravelLok
      @GravelLok Год назад

      Yes! If Gravel-Lok is designed properly with drainage in mind, it will absolutely do well in areas with freeze and thaw cycles. This means that the pavement should be slightly graded, which is really a typical installation technique for any pavement. If necessary, install drainage below to carry away an excess water. As long as the pavement can drain, it will not have any issues.

    How much sq ft does 1 five gallon bucket cover? And can this product be applied vertically on a riser?

    • @GravelLok
      @GravelLok Год назад

      If you are going to mix the liquid with pebbles and trowel out at 1.5" thick, the coverage rate is 124 sf per five gallon bucket of liquid OR 93 sf per five gallon bucket of liquid at 2" thick. In addition, 24 hours after installation, once the product has cured we highly recommend applying a roll coat with a medium nap foam paint roller. Coverage rate for this step is about 90 sf per gallon or 450 sf per five gallon container. Regarding your second question, since Gravel-Lok has a 24 hour cure time, in order to install it in a vertical space you need to build a "form" of wood, lining it with plastic such as a heavy duty contractor trash bag, to prevent the pebbles from sticking to the wood. This "form" would be designed to hold the gravel in place while it cures. Please call us for additional details, 888-851-0051.

    What if the gravel you're dealing with is almost half dirt by volume due to runoff and you're trying to recycle it? Any tips for severe cases or would you recommend just getting new gravel at that point?

    • @GravelLok
      @GravelLok 2 года назад

      This is a personal choice. If you spend the time to wash the gravel you will eventually have clean gravel to use for the project. There are some varieties of gravel that are so dirty that it has to be washed three times to get all the dirt and mud off. This is a lot of work. If you don't want to put that much time into washing the stone then it may be wise to get new gravel that can quickly be washed and ready for use. Be sure to allow to dry completely too.

    the problem is this isn't gravel !!!! this is a pee rock will this work on a true (gravel) driveway ?????? can you spray this on a heavy driven driveway any length and let it soak in to allow gravel from coming loose and pod holing ?

    • @GravelLok
      @GravelLok 2 года назад

      Gravel-Lok can be applied to any type of stone or gravel, even angular gravel, that is anywhere from 1/8" up to 2.5" in size and it will hold it in place. For driveways, you want a smoother surface and only smaller stones (typically 3/8" size stone is used) can be troweled to a smooth surface. Larger stones can't be troweled to a smooth surface which leaves some stones sticking up and those stones will be more vulnerable to coming loose under the pressure of car tires. Gravel-Lok is thick like syrup; it cannot be "sprayed" on. However, if your stones are already down you can clean them in place, let them dry, and sprinkle the Gravel-Lok liquid on with a watering pail or gravity wand. Follow that up with 1 - 2 roll coats, allowing it to cure in between. Please call us at 888-851-0051 to discuss the best technique and installation tips before attempting your first project.

      It could work great but also could be really expensive. A gallon is the majority of the cost at $220 or so and makes 1.5 - 2 cubic yards, 45 - 55 cf, or at 2” thick it’s about 270 to 330 sf. That’s a lot of material or a lot of waste.

    @gravellok How does it fair in northern climates? Freeze/Thaw resistance?

    • @GravelLok
      @GravelLok 2 года назад

      Gravel-Lok performs well in northern climates with freeze/thaw cycles. It has a slight flexibility, similar to that of asphalt. Since it is permeable you need to design with drainage in mind. Pavement must be slightly graded in order for water to flow away and not puddle up within the system.

    • @GravelLok
      @GravelLok 2 года назад

      When you mix the liquid with the stones, 1 gallon will create 18.6 sf at 2" thick or 24.8 sf at 1.5" thick or 37.2" thick at 1" thick. We also recommend applying a roll coat 24 hours after installation. The coverage rate for the roll coat is about 90 - 100 sf per gallon.

    Amy issues in winter climates, with heaving or cracking?

    • @GravelLok
      @GravelLok 2 года назад

      There are no issues with heaving or cracking as long as pavement is properly graded. If drainage is necessary, it needs to be installed. The pavement is permeable. As long as you design with that in mind you will not have any issues. Our product has been used successfully all over the country, including colder climates with freeze and thaw cycles.

    I don't get it. What's the paper-thin layer of concrete border do?

    • @GravelLok
      @GravelLok 2 года назад

      Any border will provide protection to the edge, otherwise, the bonded stones at the edge would be vulnerable to breaking off. Some people use aluminum or plastic edging; the same type of edging that is used with pavers. The edging can be thin.

    • @GravelLok
      @GravelLok 2 года назад

      If you applied too much liquid to one area and see foaming then crush the bubbles and the foam will go away. If the foam has already cured then you would need to chisel out that area and patch it. Call us at 888-851-0051 for additional advice.

    What can I use to remove it if I put too much in one area. Please thanjs in advance

    • @GravelLok
      @GravelLok 2 года назад

      If you applied too much to one area and it cured (it will look foamy and/or white) then the only solution is to chisel out that area and patch it with new gravel mixed with the proper amount of Gravel-Lok liquid. On another note, if you drip Gravel-Lok liquid on an area you can quickly use acetone and a rag to clean that up to avoid staining. You need to use acetone before it cures though.

      Gravel-Lok is very similar in terms of flexibility to asphalt. Expansion joints are only needed in large areas (plazas, for example).
